We strongly favor applicants who are interested in community building, community engagement, and leading or conducting collaborative research with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion to apply. The online application form will ask you for the following information:

The online application form will ask you to address the following questions related to your interests in Rivers, Watersheds, and Communities:

  1. Why are you interested in research that focuses on Rivers, Watersheds, and Communities? Please include any previous expertise, scholarship, or other relevant experience you might have related to your research interests. (~200 words)
  2. Why are you interested in conducting collaborative, interdisciplinary work? (~150 words)
  3. Community engagement is a core element in this program. Please tell us why you are interested in research that would require you to work with others outside of academia and if you have any previous experiences working with communities. (~150 words)
  4. Please tell us about any previous opportunities you have had to engage in leadership through research, teaching, service, outreach, or other relevant activities, and/or why this type of training would be valuable to you.  (~150 words)
  5. What are your experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the context of your prior education, employment, volunteering, social groups, etc? How would you contribute to DEI at WSU as a graduate student and RWC Trainee? (~200 words)
